CHINA’S BELT AND ROAD INITIATIVE
The Asia Pacific Research Network (APRN) and the People’s Coalition on Food Sovereignty (PCFS) organized a discussion on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) at the sidelines of the ILPS 6th General Assembly last June 23, 2019. The event aims to provide participants a much in depth analysis on the BRI and its impact on the people. It gathered around 20 participants from US, Canada, China, Cambodia, Laos, Burma, Zambia, India and the Philippines.
Victor Garces from the Institute for Political Economy provided the framework analysis of China’s assertion by way of BRI in the context of the emergent multipolar world. Meanwhile, Azra Talat Sayeed, Cochair of the PCFS presented the outcome and recommendations of the separate forum on the same topic prior to the ILPS assembly that APRN and PCFS held last June 22 on the impacts of the BRI from different sectoral and regional contexts.
