With warmest greetings of solidarity, I wish to commend and congratulate the Instituto Politecnica Tomas Katari (IPTK), Columna Sur, and Colectivo La Vanguardia for organizing and launching the Bolivia Chapter of the International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS).
The theme of this historic event is highly significant and urgent: The unity of the Left to deepen the construction of the socialist movement in Bolivia. Of course, the national independence of Bolivia, especially from US imperialism, is necessary to realize and advance socialism. It is, therefore, necessary that you take ample time for the criticism and condemnation of US imperialism. This is the evil force that seeks to dominate and profit most from the exploitation and oppression of the Bolivian people, especially the toiling masses of workers and peasants. It collaborates with the local exploiting classes of the comprador big bourgeoisie, landlord class, and bureaucrat capitalists to extract superprofits from the labor force and natural resources of Bolivia and also to oppose the national independence and socialist aspirations of the Bolivian people.
The Bolivian people can be secure from political, economic, military, and other forms of intervention by Yankee imperialism and its regional allies and from the constant or frequent threat of coup d’etat by ultra-reactionaries only if the forces of the Left and the broad masses of the people unite for the just purpose of national and social liberation. So many times have US imperialism and its local reactional stooges sought to put the people under the rule of open terror. But the Bolivian people have always asserted their national and democratic rights and have successfully fought back.
The best way to secure the people from socio-economic and political crisis and the threat of despotic rule or fascism is to unite the forces of the Left and mobilize and arm the people in order to countervail and prevail over the persistent interests and influences of Yankee imperialism and its stooges, especially in the political, economic, cultural and military centers of Bolivia.
I wish the Bolivia chapter of the ILPS the utmost success in consolidating, defending, and advancing the just cause of national independence, democracy, and socialism in the most resolute and militant unity with all forces of the Left and the broad masses of the Bolivian people. Long live the Bolivia Chapter of ILPS! Long live the people of Bolivia! Long live international solidarity!
