ILPS Solidarity Statement for the Korean’s Victory Day in the Great Fatherland Liberation War

With utmost solidarity and fervor, the International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS) extends its warmest greetings to the people of Korea. Together, we join the Korean People and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) in commemorating the momentous platinum jubilee of their victory in the Korean War. The celebration is held under the banner theme of “70 years in Defense of National Sovereignty and World Peace!”

Seventy years ago, the world first marked Victory Day in the Great Fatherland Liberation War, a historic battle against US-led imperialist aggression. On the 27th of July, we commemorate the signing of the 1953 Armistice Agreement which ended the Korean War and the hositilites paving the way for the establishment of the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).

This milestone stands as a testament to the unwavering heroism of the revolutionary forces of the DPRK, who triumphed over the imperialist might of the US and thwarted their ambitions to conquer the entirety of Korea. It was, undeniably, a victory for the struggling peoples of the world.

The Korean Armistice Agreement was intended to be a temporary measure to end the Korean War. However, the United States has perpetuated the state of war by refusing to withdraw its military forces and nuclear weapons from South Korea. This has created a long volatile situation on the Korean Peninsula.

The DPRK has called for the replacement of the agreement with a peace treaty. Rightfully, this would require the withdrawal of US forces and warheads from South Korea and would pave the way for the peaceful reunification of Korea. We continue to support the Korean people and the DPRK in this position. It is high time for the imperialist US to end its occupation of South Korea and for the Korean people to create a peaceful future for the Peninsula.

We join the people of North Korea in condemning the recent military drills by the US and South Korea which are dangerous provocations that aggravate the volatile situation on the Korean Peninsula. The US pronouncements of diplomacy and peace ring hollow when they continue to prepare for wars of aggression.

We join the peoples and countries of the world in opposing the malicious practice of nuclear blackmail by the United States against the Korean people and the DPRK. The US and its allies in the Asia-Pacific region, including the governments of South Korea and Japan, continue to perpetuate the vile narrative that North Korea’s nuclear weapons program is a threat.

In fact, the US and its allied nuclear states refuse to be part of any agreement on banning nuclear weapons. They have intensified the proliferation of nuclear arms through new and old military alliances. The imperialist US has been forcing nuclear sharing agreements in the Asia-Pacific region, similar to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) model. This means providing nuclear capabilities to countries without nuclear weapons including South Korea allowing them to enter into a nuclear sharing agreement with the US.

These warmongering threats to peace by US imperialism in the region are part of its Indo-Pacific Strategy. The United States has continued to instigate wars and diplomatic conflicts to maintain its global hegemony. This has put the region, including the Korean Peninsula, in a very volatile situation, endangering the lives of millions of people.

The Korean people have all the right to defend themselves against intensified US war provocations and fight against US imperialism’s desperate bid for hegemony.

The DPRK has been a bastion of anti-imperialist struggle for almost a century. The Korean people have proven that the oppressed can triumph, even in the face of great odds. The DPRK has endured constant threats from the US, which has sought to overthrow the DPRK government and dominate the Korean peninsula. However, the DPRK has been able to defend itself and its people.

The DPRK is also a champion of national independence and the socialist cause. The DPRK has refused to bow to the demands of the imperialist US and other powers. Instead, the DPRK has pursued its own path of development, based on the principles of self-reliance and socialism.

We, and the struggling peoples of the world, believe that the DPRK will continue to defeat US imperialism’s attempts to launch a war of aggression, carry out regime change, and dominate North Korea. We will continue to resist imperialist black propaganda and extend anti-imperialist and democratic solidarity with the Korean people.

The DPRK is a beacon of hope for oppressed peoples around the world and has shown that it is possible to resist imperialism against all odds.#
