Statement on the Indigenous Peoples Heroes Day: International League of People’s Struggles Commission 10

The Commission 10 of the International League of People’s Struggles joins the world in remembering the life and struggle of our Indigenous Peoples heroes. This year, we, reecho the call to learn from our past, take the stories of our Indigenous heroes, and learn from them in our fight for social justice, economic emancipation, self-determination, and liberation.

We salute and commend the valiant effort of many Indigenous communities worldwide in struggling against massive corporations and fascist dictatorships, living through disastrous events brought about by the titanic plunder of our mountains and forests.

The United Nations Convention on Climate Change is currently holding its 27th Conference of Parties (COP27) to supposedly address the ongoing climate crisis. Yet again, COP27 has proven itself to be an event hijacked by corporate interests, a platform where the narratives of businesses are peddled in an attempt by corporations to escape accountability. In whatever manner these big entities twist the narrative in their favor, the disgust of Indigenous peoples worldwide is far greater in strength. It is clear to the vast majority of Indigenous communities which the real culprits of environmental destruction are—the businesses that rob communities of their land, resources, and rights and the governments that support these aggressions through massive deployment of violent military forces.

Throughout the long and protracted struggle of Indigenous Peoples for environmental protection and self–determination, many have laid down their lives and countless others continue to fight to this day—they are our Indigenous Peoples Heroes.

Through the broadest, intersectional, and most militant anti-imperialist struggle of peoples of the world, the martyrdom of our heroes will not be left in vain, nor shall it remain in our memory, but they will live through our struggles. Only through the unity of the most oppressed peoples in the world can genuine liberation, peace, and justice be achieved.

Our struggles must be linked with the proletarian struggle against imperialism and reaction to achieve a world that respects the rights of Indigenous Peoples – a world where Indigenous culture and knowledge are recognized as relevant tools in creating a sustainable, healthy, and just society. We must strive to move forward in dismantling the rotten, violent, and plunderous capitalist system, a system that continues to exploit, oppress, and silence Indigenous Peoples, a system wherein the outright neglect of Indigenous Peoples inherent rights is normalized. With the ongoing global crises, there is no clearer alternative but socialism. As a system directly in contrast with capitalism, socialism can promise a society that respects Indigenous Peoples rights including the right to self-determination– the society that our Indigenous Peoples Heroes fought for.

Long live the legacy of our Indigenous Peoples Heroes!
Learn from our past; Fight for our Future!
Down with imperialism and fascism!
