We, All Nepal Peasants’ Federation (Revolutionary Centre), express our extreme grief for the loss of a great Filipino peasant leader, comrade Joseph Canlas, who was arrested, trumped with fake charges and compelled to lose his life due to Covid-19 acquired while he was in the police custody.
Comrade Joseph Canlas, vice chairperson of the Peasant Movement of the Philippines (KMP), also known as Ka JC, was a popular peasant leader not only among the poor farmers of Central Luzon, but also among the peace and justice loving people of the Philippines. Ka JC, 59, succumbed early morning of May 11 to complications of COVID-19 and was rushed to the ICU of Jose B. Lingad Memorial Hospital last Saturday evening due to acute respiratory failure and other COVID symptoms.
We strongly condemn the unjustified arrest, violence and trumped-up charges against him PERPETRATED BY THE Duterte Administration along with the inhuman neglect for his medical needs at the earliest possible that made the Filipino farmers to lose one of their most honored leaders.
We, on behalf of All Nepal Peasants Federation (Revolutionary Centre) and revolutionary peasants of Nepal, express our deep condolences to the family of Ka JC, his wife Mercy Canlas, his comrades, the Peasants’ Movement of the Philippines (KMP), justice loving peasants, patriotic people of the Philippines and the international movements whom he served unconditionally.
We strongly demand justice to Ka JC, and all the people and activists who were killed illegitimately. We extend our warmest solidarity with the KMP, peasants and people of the Philippines in their struggle for land, peace, justice and democracy. Ka JC, we shall always remember you.
Justice to Joseph Canlas!
Stop Killing Farmers!
Long Live Ka JC!
Long Live the Peasants’ Movement of the Philippines (KMP)!
