Condemn the brutal killing of peasant leader Ka Randy

All Nepal Peasants’ Federation (ANPFa) strongly condemns the brutal assassination of the peasant leader and peace activist Randall “Ka Randy” Echanis, who was gunned down and stabbed to death, along with his neighbour, on August 10, 2020, inside his rented house in Novaliches, Quezon City, the Philippines.

Ka Randy was the Deputy Secretary General of the Peasant Movement in the Philippines (Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas – KMP), National Chairperson of Anakpawis Partylist and leading NDFP consultant on agrarian reform. He was a renowned peace activist and believed on sustainable peace based on the social and economic justice.

We, on behalf of All Nepal Peasants Federation (ANPFa) and all the peasants of Nepal, pay our heartfelt respect and tribute to Randall “Ka Randy” Echanis and extend our deep condolence to his family, relatives, and all the comrades of the KMP and demand justice for Ka Randy.

Ka Randy was a great internationalist and anti-imperialist. As a popular leader of the KMP, he actively participated in international and solidarity work through Asian Peasant Coalition (APC), Pesticides Action Network-Asia and Pacific (PANAP), International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS) and Peoples’ Coalition on Food Sovereignty (PCFS); and served the international peasant movement. ANPFa salutes his lifelong revolutionary commitment in the struggle against imperialism, neoliberalism and exploitation of the peasant and working class.

The loss of Ka Randy is neither bearable, nor repairable. The tyrant Duterte Regime, devoted in service of the neoliberal policies and forces, must understand that the peoples’ struggle in the Philippines can’t be defeated by taking lives of the great son of the Philippines and great hero of the Filipino peasant movement “Ka Randy” and his comrades or other peasants. We believe that victory of the Filipino peasant and peoples’ struggle is the true salute to Ka Randy and appeal to transform the grief into the strength and unify to fulfill his dreams. We firmly stand by the side of Filipino peasants and express our solidarity with their struggle in this hard time.
