Anakbayan Canada, its chapters and affiliated organizations, join the Int’l Indigenous Peoples Movement for Self Determination & Liberation (IPMSDL) and the International League of Peoples’ Struggle – ILPS Commission 10 in the Global Day of Solidarity for Public Health Not Private Profit this April 15.

The global pandemic of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) is linked to the capitalist and imperialist practices of mass displacement, deforestation and water pollution, land grabbing, and excessive resource extraction. Even as the global pandemic ravages the world and the death toll continues to rise as a result of lack of healthcare access and medical and food supplies, large corporations that are in control of these much-needed resources choose profit over the people.

Indigenous Peoples in Canada and in the Philippines continue to be exploited and their calls for food, water, better quarantine facilities, and support from the government ignored. The Coastal Gas Link pipeline on Wet’suwet’en land continues operations despite the calls for non-essential work to be halted.

Filipino youth stand in solidarity to amplify the calls for genuine respect for human rights and democracy amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic. We demand free mass testing and treatment for the masses, no bailouts for big corporations and capitalists, social protections and support for the people, especially indigenous peoples, national minorities, and the urban poor!

On this Global Day of Solidarity, let us link our voices to reclaim our lives, our health, and our rights!
