Stand with Venezuela Against US Intervention and War!

Statement of the International League of Peoples’ Struggle

The International League of Peoples’ Struggle condemns Donald Trump’s recent declaration calling for Venezuela’s airspace to be closed as a part of their ongoing imperialist war provocations against and attempts of regime change in Venezuela. The League firmly stands with the Venezuelan people determined to protect their national sovereignty over their land, water, and air.

Beginning in late August 2025, the United States began to deploy its military arsenal such as fighter jets and naval ships in the Caribbean Sea, positioned to attack and provoke Venezuela. Since then, the United States has continued to escalate their aggression against Venezuela, which include but is not limited to:

  • Declaring their democratically-elected government as a ‘narco-terrorist’ state in order to justify invasion and regime change;
  • Conducting 21 airstrikes against what are likely fishing boats and migrant that have killed at least 83 people that are accused as cartel members;
  • Invoking the 1789 Alien Enemies Act against Venezuelan migrants even prior to this military build-up;
  • Confirming covert CIA operations are taking place within Venezuela;
  • Deploying the world’s largest warship in history, the USS Gerald R. Ford, and over 15,000 military troops off of the shores of Venezuela; and
  • Designating this military build-up as an official campaign, Operation Southern Spear.

This series of events have led to what is now the largest military build-up in the Caribbean Sea since the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962, showcasing the deep crisis within US imperialism that is only ‘resolved’ through their war lever. It must be noted that this is not an aberration from the previous administrations that attempted regime change since Hugo Chavez assumed the presidency in Venezuela, but is rather an outgrowth of the desire of US imperialism to control Venezuela’s oil revenues for their monopoly capitalists and finance capital. As fascism has now progressively taken hold in the United States, we see these covert means of interventions turn into overt deeds that attempts to strangle Venezuela through all terrains.

Historically, ‘isolationist’ policies by the imperialist U.S. – such as the current ‘America First’ policy of the fascist Trump administration – has meant a strategic return to securing their ‘backyard’ in Latin America and the Caribbean, coupled with the anti-migrant scapegoating that dominate the internal politics of the United States. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth confirmed this outlook as he stated, “The Western Hemisphere is America’s neighborhood, and we will protect it.” Trump’s fascist foreign policy seeks to combine the old and new of American imperialism in its current aggression against Venezuela, integrating the Monroe doctrine and the last three generalized ‘wars’ that the United States has either formally or informally declared: the War on Drugs, the War on Terror, and the War on Migrants.

Trump’s flippant and unbacked comments of a no-fly zone have been met with opposition by Democrats and Republicans, showcasing the cracks and splits within the big bourgeoisie even if it is on the level of tactical differences. Ultimately, it is the might and unity of the Venezuelan people to protect their national sovereignty and our peace-loving peoples’ movements that stand in solidarity which will stop this imperialist aggression. The League calls on all of our member organizations and the anti-imperialist movement to resolutely oppose the US’s economic, political, and military attempts at regime change in Venezuela. We continue to demand the immediate halt to the extrajudicial killings of Venezuelans by US drones and the immediate withdrawal of all US forces from the region.

Hands off Venezuela! U.S. troops out now!

No to US troops in the Caribbean for attacks against Venezuela!

End US-led wars! End the sanctions!

No regime change! No intervention!

Down with US imperialism!

From Venezuela to the Philippines, Stop the US War Machine!

Signed,

International League of Peoples’ Struggle
