Since July 1944, the people of the world have suffered through more than 80 years of neoliberal economic policies, austerity measures, and debt bondage imposed by the US-led International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group (IMF-WB), especially on countries in the Global South.

Established towards the end of World War II to reap super profits from post-war reconstruction and cement the global dominance of US imperialism, the IMF-WB continues until this day to fund projects and use loans to impose anti-people structural adjustment programs that keep economies of Global South countries mired in chronic crisis and the people drowning in poverty and destitution.

The IMF-WB uses so-called ‘development projects’ to enter markets and advance the agenda of the imperialist powers to expand their power and spheres of influence in semi-colonies across the world. It is also a tool used to facilitate war and genocide, as it funds the US-Zionist Board of Peace in Gaza. All of this is done in collusion with states and corrupt government officials to further enrich billionaire oligarchs.

Since the 1980’s, a global movement has been growing to resist these imperialist international financial institutions. This year, the People’s Global Campaign Against the IMF-WB has been launched by peoples organizations of workers, farmers, women, youth, indigenous peoples with support from civil society organizations against the upcoming IMF-WB Annual Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand, which will be held from October 12-18, 2026.

As the people of Thailand wage militant mass protests against the IMF-WB during the opening day of its Annual Meeting in Bangkok on October 12, 2026, ILPS urgently calls on all peoples to unite and amplify the global resistance against the IMF-WB’s imperialist plunder, fascist state repression, and destruction to economies as well as people’s lives and livelihood across the globe.

HOLD POLITICAL EDUCATION sessions publicly or within your organizations about the IMF-WB and relate the ramifications of its neoliberal economic policies on the people in your country or locality. Hold education sessions on the historic development of the IMF-WB, their connection to imperialism, and the fight of the people against these neoliberal schemes.
