Communique for the Founding Assembly of the International League of Peoples’ Struggle in the United Kingdom

Four months after the successful 7th International Assembly of the International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS) held in Malaysia in June 2024, the movement of anti-imperialist formations worldwide has gained renewed momentum. This assembly has invigorated efforts to unite diverse anti-imperialist and democratic struggles, sparking the establishment of new chapters in various regions across the globe. On the 6th of October 2024, a new chapter of ILPS was founded in the United Kingdom.

This effort came to fruition as ILPS UK successfully conducted its founding assembly on the 6th of October 2024 at Goldsmiths University, London. The assembly was attended by 35 People from founding organisations, namely Anakbayan UK, London Philippine Solidarity – Friends of the Filipino People in Struggle, Migrante UK, Palestinian Youth Movement, Nijjor Manush, The R.O.T Collective (formerly known as The Rights Collective), Anti-Imperialist Front UK, Union of Cypriots-UK, and The PRIDE Library Manchester. The assembly was also attended by a few organisations who came as observers, such as United Voices of the World, Sekolah Merdeka, and individual members of the Anti-Colonial Alliance.

The effort was initiated by members of the founding organisations from London Philippine Solidarity -FFPS (LPS-FFPS)and Anakbayan UK, along with some volunteers who formed the ad hoc committee. The committee took on the tasks of reaching the broadest of anti-imperialist organisations and democratic struggles in London and the logistical task of setting up the ILPS UK Chapter.

The assembly opened with a message from LPS-FFPS, emphasising the crucial need for solidarity among organisations to support national liberation struggles worldwide. Oz Karahan, ILPS Vice Chair for Europe, also sent a message of solidarity, sharing progress on establishing a regional chapter in the UK following successful chapter formations in Belgium and the Netherlands.

The keynote address was delivered by Victor Garces, ILPS Vice Chair for Internal Affairs, who spoke on the decline of imperialism. He provided insights into the multipolar system among imperialist countries, which has fueled inter-imperialist conflict, resulting in a global crisis for the people. Garces stressed that the wars driven by imperialist powers – rooted in overproduction and the accumulation of super profits – must be halted by strengthening popular resistance against these forces.

Attendees participated in breakout groups, where they connected and discussed the pressing issues facing the people of the United Kingdom. These discussions focused on addressing these challenges and how organizations can unite in response.

The assembly concluded with a report on the ILPS 7th International Assembly, presented by Norway Crame, Vice Chairperson of Anakbayan UK. The ILPS UK and its founding organizations will reconvene to formalize its structure and appoint a secretariat in the UK.

Signed,

ILPS United Kingdom Ad Hoc Country Chapter Committee
