Statement of the ILPS United Kingdom Country Chapter

ILPS UK strongly condemns the state repression involved in the mass arrest of protestors in National Demonstration.

State repression won’t defeat us -we remain undeterred in building the broad front against genocide, Zionism, and imperialism.

ILPS UK stands in solidarity with the 77 protesters arrested at yesterday’s National Demo, many of whom remain in police custody, with at least 9 charged with public order offences. We call for these bogus charges to be dropped, and for the immediate release of those still held in police custody.

Member organisations of ILPS UK attended the demonstration yesterday – which was marked by a significant increase in police presence, and the escalation of aggression in police tactics used. It is important to state that this situation was contrived by the police – by refusing the legitimate demands of organisers to march to the BBC in Portland Place.

The conduct of the police marks an escalation in the state’s response to the overwhelming reaction against the genocide in Gaza, and the British state’s support for the genocide. The demands of this movement have progressed beyond simply calling for a ceasefire – but for the complete liberation of the Palestinian people from the Zionist entity and an end to the settler colonial project. For the last 15 months, the State has been increasingly using its repressive powers to prevent this development, and protect its imperialist interests in the Zionist project. It has not succeeded, and it will not succeed.

The growing demands for a fully free and liberated Palesine, for an end to the genocide that started not in October 2023, but with the Nakba 76 years ago, and for the end to the imperialist system that necessitates the violence of zionist state, cannot be contained by the petit authoritarianism of the British state. We call on all progressive peoples and organisations to continue and escalate our resistance, in the face of intensifying repression, to broaden and deepen this movement.
