Statement of the ILPS and the Pacific Regional Committee

The members of the International League of Peoples Struggles – Asia and the Pacific (ILPS-AP) are elated that there will be a cessation of violence and murder against the Palestinian people in Gaza from January 19, 2025. We want it to be permanent and look forward to the liberation of Palestine from the US-backed and colonial Zionist regime. Close to 50,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been murdered by the Zionist Israel Occupation Force (IOF) since October 7, 2023. The death-toll could exceed hundreds of thousands as disease and hunger grips the population.

Now the whole world has seen that the genocide being committed by the US-backed Zionist Israeli Regime led by Bibi Netanyahu is aimed at expanding Zionism in the region, and ensuring hegemony by US and Israel over the resource-rich Levant.

We are hoping that the ceasefire will be a time for remembrance, rebuilding and justice.

We hope for a global, collective remembrance of all those martyred and felled, for all those countless children with their smiles and laughs mutilated by the bombs and bullets, for all those who still remain buried under the rubble.

We hope for a global collective rebuilding for all those who are standing proud and defiant in Palestine, for all those whose cries and anguish reverberate in the camps and hospitals, for all those whose future is embedded in the heart of the Palestinian child. We will support Palestinian self-determination for the rebuilding.

We hope that the ceasefire will be a time for achieving justice and accountability. Those who have led and commanded the genocide against the Palestinian people must face justice and be held accountable for every death. The US-backed Zionist Israeli regime led by Netanyahu and its death squad, the Israel Occupation Force must be put to the courts and end their reign of impunity. Those who enabled and supported the genocide must also face reckoning. The US regime of Biden, its military-industrial complex and the members of the Group of Seven (G7) who have provided the munitions and resources that fueled the genocide are all accountable.

We hope that the ceasefire ushers in a time for building ever stronger solidarity between the Palestinian people and the world. We are encouraging everyone to continue conducting study sessions on the history of the Palestine and the Zionist colonial project being led by the Israeli regime. We need to deepen our solidarity with the Palestinian people by developing actions and building organizations that respond to the rising imperial militarism in our region and in the world. Here in Asia and the Pacific, we must reach out to the Palestinian diaspora and conduct common actions with them.

Signed,

ILPS Asia and the Pacific Regional Committee
