Statement of the ILPS Africa and West Asia Regional Committee
The ILPS Provisional Regional Committee for Africa and West Asia condemns the abduction of Booker Ngesa Omole, General Secretary of the Communist Party Marxist Kenya. Booker was reportedly abducted in Isiolo by officers of the Kenya Police Service last night, 24 February and was tortured. He was beaten up, his tooth broken and his finger cut with a pen knife. He is presently detained at the Mlolongo Police Station, denied access to medical care and his legal counsel.
This abduction is the latest in the string of human rights violations committed by the Kenyan state against activists in their country, particularly for Booker Omole.
On 8 September 2024, as Booker was about to travel to Beijing, China on official Party business, the police arrested him and subsequently raided his house despite the lack of formal complaint or case against him.
On the eve of 10 January 2025, a commando of killers equipped with lethal weapons and state-of-the-art equipment such as night-vision googles attempted to assassinate Booker . Only the timely reaction of Booker’s comrades foiled the attempt.
On 2 April 2025, his car was sprayed with bullets while traversing Nakuru province.
The Kenyan state, under the direction of US imperialism, is desperate to quell the people’s clamor for living wages, decent jobs, and a more equitable society. It wantonly silences those it deems subversive, who are organizing the peasants, workers, women, and youth. It seeks to cultivate a docile and subservient Kenyan population to be exploited by big businesses and landlords, especially in preparation for the upcoming 2026 Africa France Summit on 11-12 May.
We are one with the call for the immediate and unconditional release of Booker Omole. All those involved in his abduction and illegal detention should be held accountable. We call upon other anti-imperialist organizations and formations to express their collective outrage and explore all forms of solidarity with the Kenyan people.
