Fightback Fascism! An Educational Series of the ILPS

Across the globe, fascism and authoritarianism have resurged in various forms—through intensified militarization, state repression, criminalization of dissent, disinformation campaigns, and the consolidation of political and economic power in the hands of the few. These conditions foster a climate where attacks on human rights defenders, activists, journalists, and marginalized communities intensify under the guise of “national security” and “development.”

The rise of fascist tendencies is not an isolated phenomenon but part of a global pattern that thrives on neoliberal crises, systemic inequality, and growing resistance movements. It seeks to discredit progressive movements and democratic rights while promoting state terror and impunity.

As Jose Maria Sison asserts, fascism is not an aberration but a tool of monopoly capitalism to suppress the growing strength of mass movements and preserve the rule of the capitalist class. He points out that when democratic struggles and progressive forces gain momentum, the ruling elite resorts to fascism under various pretexts—employing fear-mongering, chauvinism, racism, and disinformation to mask the root causes of crisis. In this sense, fascism serves as an extreme reaction to capitalist decay and the threat of social transformation, reinforcing imperialist domination and systemic exploitation.

In this context, it is imperative for people’s organizations, social movements, and advocates worldwide to deepen their understanding of fascism as a historical and contemporary phenomenon, to uncover its economic and political roots, and to strengthen collective strategies for resistance. The ILPS Fightback Fascism Series aims to provide a platform for critical discussions and popular education to equip participants with the tools for advocacy, organizing, and mass education work in the global struggle against fascism and authoritarianism.

Series Objectives

1. To enhance participants’ knowledge of the historical roots, characteristics, and contemporary forms of fascism globally.

2. To analyze how fascism exploits disinformation and historical distortion to gain power and legitimacy, and to equip participants with strategies to counter these narratives.

3. To develop participants’ capacity to link theory and practice by formulating community-based and sectoral initiatives that resist fascist measures and uphold people’s rights.

4. To situate anti-fascist struggles within the global context, fostering unity and cooperation among movements in the globe.

5. To create a pool of resource persons and community educators committed to popularizing anti-fascist education in their respective organizations and sectors.

On the occasion of the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances (August 30, 2025), the International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS) remembers and honors the victims of this brutal and systematic practice.

The ILPS urgently calls on all peoples to unite against these crimes, demand justice, and hold perpetrators accountable. Only through collective resistance, truth-seeking, and solidarity can we end enforced disappearances and build a world founded on dignity, justice, and genuine freedom.

Week of Action for International Day in Solidarity with Political Prisoners and International Human Rights Day

The Week of Action, connecting the International Day in Solidarity with Political Prisoners (December 3) and International Human Rights Day (December 10), is a strategically crucial period for global solidarity.

This sustained mobilization bridges two vital concerns: it confirms that the quest for people’s rights is intrinsically linked to the struggle for the freedom of political prisoners. This is the moment to unleash a militant, unified front against repression. Our solidarity is our weapon; their freedom is our victory!

Their Freedom is Our Freedom!
