Statement of the ILPS Asia and the Pacific Regional Committee
Stop the shooting, de-escalate the situation and achieve a political solution.
The International League of Peoples’ Struggle – Asia and the Pacific calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan. After the government of India initiated Operation Sindoor, supposedly aimed at precision strikes against targets in Pakistan and in Jammu and Kashmir, the government of Pakistan responded with their own attacks against India. Several scores of civilians from areas affected have been killed and injured due to the military actions which started 7th of May 2025.
An immediate de-escalation should be taken by both sides. The war hawks from both sides are dominating the discourse, hyping sectarian interests, including the religious angle, to the detriment of the working people. Foreign imperialists like the US, one of India’s weapons suppliers, are influencing the conflict for strategic gain through mechanisms such as the Quad military alliance and informing India’s recent tariffs on China while completely exposing their heavy industry to US dominance. Military tit-for-tat, or an eye for an eye doctrine, will make all blind. But so far, it is not everybody but mostly civilians, the working people, who have been killed and injured from the military actions. The voice for peace of the working people must be heard and heeded.
The International League for Peoples Struggle – Asia and the Pacific (ILPS-AP) condemns any attack on civilians, including the 26 civilians killed last April 22, 2025 at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. It calls for the complete liberation and self-determination for the Kashmiri people, as the occupation and plunder of its land is at the root of the conflict and violence within its territory. The ILPS-AP fears the spread of war in the region. There is already the rising tide of war and militarism, with the US leading the charge, with its engagement and containment strategy against China and its drive to destabilize Iran. The Korean Peninsula and the South China Sea are at present heavily militarised.
The ILPS-AP hopes that the parties involved in the current military actions will stop the fighting, de-escalate the situation and worked to achieve a political solution to the ongoing crises in the sub-region of South Asia. ILPS – AP supports worker and farmer action in India, Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan to demand an end to the fighting and for a genuine political solution.
Signed,
International League of Peoples’ Struggle – Asia and the Pacific Regional Committee
